The number of car insurance customers taking out eco-friendly cover for their vehicles is steadily increasing, according to More Than.
Nick Dear, the provider's external communications consultant, stated that the growing number of people taking out such products may be due to the growing number of hybrid cars on the roads.
He said that research found that nearly three-quarters of drivers are concerned about rising petrol prices, meaning such worries could be combated through the use of more economical vehicles.
"Twenty-two million drivers would consider switching to a hybrid car if they were cheaper to run than a normal car," he added.
"Also, 58 per cent of drivers said they would consider switching if they could benefit from cheaper motor insurance."
Launched in June 2001, More Than has provided around two million customers across the UK with guidance on insurance products for their car, home, pet, life and travels.
The company recently urged consumers affected by problems at Heathrow's new Terminal 5 to contact their insurance providers to see if their policy offers compensation in the event of flight delays.
